Still Fighting

The Tennessee Innocence Project currently represents 11 clients across the state. Read below to learn about two of these clients who are still fighting for their freedom:

Greg Lance

In April of 1998, Victor and Alla Kolesnikow were found dead in their Cookeville, Tennessee home. The investigation in their deaths pointed to a few likely suspects; however, only one suspect was ever arrested - Greg Lance. Mr. Lance was arrested for the double homicide a year later and found guilty by a jury. The Tennessee Innocence Project, along with Mr. Lance’s family, is working to prove he did not commit this crime and to clear his name.

Jerome Mason

On September 13, 1993, a tragic shooting in North Memphis claimed the life of Leo Marshall during a drug deal gone wrong. Despite the chaos of that night, a crucial eyewitness account led to the wrongful conviction of Jerome Mason, based solely on questionable identifications from a flawed police lineup. With no physical evidence tying Mason to the crime, he was sentenced to life in prison, a fate determined by witness testimony that has since come under scrutiny. Since 2022, the Tennessee Innocence Project has been tirelessly investigating his case, poised to present compelling evidence of his actual innocence in court.
