Join us in Memphis for an Evening with Wayne Burgess!

Attention all Memphis supporters! The Tennessee Innocence Project invites you to an inspiring evening on November 14 from 5 PM to 7 PM at McEwens (120 Monroe Ave, Memphis, TN). Join us for a special conversation with Wayne Burgess, who was wrongfully convicted and spent over 24 years in prison before his exoneration.

Wayne will share his journey of resilience and hope, providing a firsthand account of the challenges faced by those wrongfully convicted. This event, hosted by Jimmy Duckworth and Josie Holland, will also offer an in-depth look into the essential work of the Tennessee Innocence Project and how we are fighting to secure justice for the innocent.

All donations made at this event will be generously matched up to $4,000 by Baker Donelson. Don’t miss this chance to be part of a meaningful dialogue about justice reform and community support.

About the Speaker:

Wayne Burgess was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1999 for the death of his girlfriend's one-year-old daughter in Pulaski, TN. After spending over 24 years at Hardeman County Correctional Facility, his conviction was overturned on April 13, 2023, thanks to the tireless efforts of the team from the Tennessee Innocence Project (TIP).

The prosecution opted not to retry the case after new expert testimony proved it was scientifically impossible for Wayne to have committed the crime. Circuit Judge David Allen ruled him innocent, marking the fifth exoneration achieved by TIP.

Wayne is now a full-time student at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), working towards a new future after his unjust incarceration.
